If you are registered in Zihuatanejo and then go to Petatlan, I suspect that you end up having to re register the vehicle, in other words, start all over again,

How to get new license plates (reply)

Yes, that is a good assumption. First year we had a vehicle here we rushed in to get it registered in January. Next year the same. Next year they ran out of license plates so it was May. This year we'll go in when the word is out that all is well, no longer lines than normal, and not sweat enforcement.

Relax, you are good.

How to get new license plates

I’m new to this, so please be patient with me.

Thirteen years ago, when I was still a temporary resident, I ceased having a foreign-plated vehicle. Finally, in October 2024, I bought a new (as in brand new from the dealer) camioneta. I have plates and insurance.

I understand that I am supposed to renew the registration each January at Finanza. But apparently the Finanza office is not open due to protests by teachers.

I’m guessing that once the Finanza office reopens that it will be very busy.

I’m guessing/hoping that enforcement of the 2025 registration requirement will be suspended while it is not possible to renew. Is that a safe assumption?
