Shirt, shoes, and swearing etiquette? (reply)

We live in La Noria, home of LOTS of fishermen and lancheros. Shirts, shoes and colorful language etiquette are different this side of the puente. It's funny to me seeing men (including my husband) put on their shirt as they're crossing the bridge (puente) heading towards the pier/parking lot. And vice-versa. Just pay attention to what others, locals are doing.

If you're not on the beach, please don't walk around as if you were.

Look Around (reply)

I think the short answer is, “Look around.”

Are 99% of people dressed similarly? You’re probably complying with etiquette. Are you one of 1% or 3% or 5%? You are probably not complying with the expected standard.

If you are naked in the mercado you are not complying with etiquette. If you are clothed at a nude beach you are not complying with etiquette.

Many years ago I worked as a gardener. A prospective client asked me, “Do you know what a weed is?”

I said “It doesn’t matter whether it is a dandelion or an orchid, if it is growing where you don’t want it, it is a weed”.

I got the work.

Don’t be a weed.

A hat may bother some, lack of a dinner jacket and tie may bother others. I just try not to embarrass my wife but the caps at steakhouses do drive her crazy. Things change as to what is acceptable, I certainly do not want to go back to wearing a tie at work.

Shirt etiquette? (reply)

We live here and agree that the lack of shirts is not cool. He is shirtless on the beach and inside our compound. If he has to get something from someone at the door, he puts his shirt on.

My pet peeve, and it hasn't been bad this year. Males and especially females who go to the grocery store in a bathing suit without a cover over it. I finally started confronting them and asking them if they would go to their neighborhood store dressed like this. As they gasp, I say that this is MY neighborhood grocery store and I am insulted by their behavior.

Probably shouldn't do it, but....
