I thought the new Capricho del Rey and the Partenon are where events like that should be held, instead of making folks walk through that nasty stinking walkway.

Underscoring the city's lack of education, around 6-something this Sunday morning I was awakened by the BOOM diddy BOOM diddy BOOM of disco music blaring from the pier where the mayor had organized a morning run. Disco music on Sunday morning! Even though I'm an atheist, I prefer church bells on Sunday morning to disco. I guess folks could hear it all the way across the bay since I could clearly hear it here by Plaza del Artista. Un-friggin-believable.

This perfect sleeping weather is absolutely wonderful. It makes getting up early easy in order to take advantage of the cool morning for getting exercise and doing chores. The spectacular sunrises we get to enjoy for arising early are a bonus. Even in the middle of the day the temperatures feel mild unless you're working in the sun.

Busloads of visitors arrived this morning, still in their cold weather gear from the cities in El Bajío. I love watching the children discover the beach and the ocean, anxious to change clothes and play in the water and the sand. Smiling faces everywhere this evening during our stroll to the pier. There were lots of extranjeros at several popular waterfront restaurants including Daniel's and La Porteña, both packed.

Unfortunately, due to an event blocking pier access this afternoon and evening, locals and visitors had to use the extremely dilapidated, urine-stenched walkway behind the offices of the Capitanía del Puerto to get to and from the pier. Extremely rude and elitist on the part of the municipal government. Something we've been seeing too much of in recent years. It's a PUBLIC PIER, not a salon for special events.

I love our customs and traditions. How we greet each other walking in the street or along the waterfront, even strangers. Our daily siesta is something we still observe along the Costa Grande of Guerrero, though many people here from other places don't, and sometimes we have to remind them. In general, we don't answer the phone or the door between 2 and 5. That's sacred time for us when we enjoy our main meal of the day then kick back and relax and take a brief snooze. And it ain't a meal without tortillas and frijoles! I'm ruined. I couldn't live anywhere else. ¡Viva Zihuatanejo!

La mayoría de los pescadores pangueros llegan a Playa Principal en sus pangas con el fruto de sus labores nocturnas antes de salir el sol.
