A group of people partied all night long on the downtown beach then left their garbage where they'd been sitting. People who leave garbage on beaches don't deserve to be able to use them. Period. Since we have Policía Turística and Eco-Guardianes de las Playas it's not like there isn't manpower to simply make routine patrols and to fine infractors. Without fining infractors, people's behavior won't change. It's as simple as that. I ALWAYS pick up plastic from the water's edge when I walk the beach in the mornings. If more people did so it would go a long way towards making our bay healthier.

Another group of people had the pier granted to them to use to raise money for their cause. The same group that had music thumping at 6:30 on Sunday morning, also had the pier this Monday evening, and again it was blocked off to the public so that locals and tourists had to use the fouled and deteriorated walkway behind the Capitanía del Puerto. Extremely insulting and elitist. This may work for the people seeking to raise funds, but it's not how you win over local support for your cause. Since I saw municipal officials there, I suspect the idea to use the pier instead of a more adequate venue was their idea. Shouldn't mix NGO's with politicians ever. The politician appears to have taken over the event for their own personal gain.

Tourism was down today. Plenty of extranjeros are here, but hardly any Mexican tourists. Good for some businesses but not for others. The downtown beach was mostly empty today with only a few beachgoers even though it was another absolutely picture-postcard-perfect day of sunny skies and warm weather. Fishermen are returning in the mornings with abundant catches but not enough buyers.

I want to thank my former student Lupita at Panadería "La Boquita" for the delicious pan dulce she makes that is one of our favorite treats for breakfast with our licuados and local coffee.
