Thanks Rob, I’m assuming we can get Microdyn at places like Merza if the Mrs. prefers that route?

Yes, Merz always has it as do many small mom & pop stores. Farmacias also sell it.

We enjoyed licuados this morning made with fresh strawberries that were soaked in water from the garrafón and with Microdyn added.

One illness from whatever was on the outside of a precut melon 20 years ago was enough. I am a zealot for Microdyn.

Cleaning of fruit and veggies (reply)

I don’t succeed in my intention to always use a MicroDyne and (garrafón) water bath on fruits and vegetables that I don’t peel. I do it probably 50% of the time for tomatoes and 90% of the time for lettuce. I’m not sure why my behaviour varies so much.

I don’t buy mushrooms because I don’t like the idea of soaking mushrooms, but I buy huitlacoche for my “fungus fix” when I can because I am fine with soaking huitlacoche.

My housekeeper is fastidious about rinsing (in agua pipa) anything that I buy that she will cut open, like oranges, avocados, mamey, etc.

With a longer stay this time we are fortunate to be able to visit the central market to buy these, along with the very nice gentleman who sells fresh strawberries in front of the bank. Wondering if these should be washed a particular way here or does the kitchen sink water suffice (there is bottled water provided where we are at which would require a wash and separate rinse bowl)
Appreciate your local insight.

We will get serious crap for this, but we treat our food the same here that we did when we lived in California. If it looks dirty, rinse it under tap water. That is it. We use tape water for brushing our teeth and washing dishes.
