Just like yesterday, mid paddle we saw them and sat down. They checked us out and did circles around us and blew a lot of bubbles. After about 20 minutes, we moved on. Don't want to get too much sun!

I guess my captain friend saw a different humpback whale, which is actually a good sign since it means there are still others in the area. Thanks for the update. I saw you all paddling out there, but I didn't have my binocs with me so I couldn't see the whales.

At the crack of dawn groups of tourists began arriving to the waterfront this Thursday, most awaiting the water taxis to Las Gatas. However, I was surprised to see a camp of about 5 tents grouped together on the beach, what locals jokingly call "Hotel Camarena", and a few others with the same group sleeping under the open sky. They were eventually told to leave by city workers who recommended they go to the campground at Playa Linda.

We enjoyed absolutely picture-postcard-perfect weather again today. The water in the bay is crystal clear, and the temperature remains quite nice between 26.6 and 27.2°C. It doesn't look like the ocean is going to get any cooler this year, and that's probably not good for the marine life. A light breeze helped keep folks comfortable even though it got up to 32°C today.

Momma whale and her baby were still in the bay this morning, but later in the afternoon a captain friend of mine said he saw her making her way out about 20 miles or so from the coast heading westward, I suspect to seek others of her kind and to find a favorable current to help take her and her baby northward. I hope they make it.
