Well, the first week's tourists have come and gone, and now we're into Round Two. We generally see more middle- and upper-class tourists during the second week of the Semana Santa-Semana de Pascua vacation period, but the first week turned out to be pretty good for downtown merchants, charter captains and restaurants, so I imagine we'll all still be happy even if things stay the same.

We're still enjoying refreshing nights and cool mornings. The bay was calm and clear this morning, but the mar de fondo has returned. The water is warming, registering as high as 28.1°C in Zihuatanejo's bay today. We may see early rains this year. But for the moment fires are still what we need to watch out for since the hills and woodlands are bone dry.

Momma whale and her baby were still in Zihuatanejo's bay this morning, but a captain friend said he didn't see the momma later in the afternoon when he cruised past, just the baby. However, I don't think she'd abandon her baby, so maybe she was just resting nearby and not splashing around like the baby was. I did see the Sector Naval and the Capitanía del Puerto keeping an eye out for them, and that's reassuring.
