Well, it doesn't look like it'll rain this Saturday, though it will get close tonight and Sunday. But now it could be another week or more before we see any rain. Bummer. I was hoping for a nice little rain to wash all the dust away this weekend.

One thing I've noticed is that the water from our tinaco no longer runs as cool as it's been for the past 5 months or so. Like the ocean, it's warmed up, too. Another sign of the changing season.

Downtown restaurants weren't as busy as usual this Saturday for Día de las Madres. While there were many families out'n'about, there didn't seem to be as many as in years past. Maybe they were all worn out from the big wing-ding Friday night at the Unidad Deportiva. Even the waterfront restaurants that usually have huge parties were kind of low-key for the day in comparison with years past. I did see a nun walk by with a bouquet of flowers, which I thought kind of odd. Even though we call them "madre", they aren't actually mothers.

From now until mid-July we have one of the slowest parts of the year for tourism. Weekend visitors help, but hotels, restaurants and gift shops will be laying people off if not closing altogether. Even though it happens every year, somehow it's never occurred to any of our municipal politicians to attract any non-tourism dependent businesses or industries. Even the governor is focused only on developing and growing the tourist industry for the entire Costa Grande and Acapulco, no other industries are even being considered much less actively sought out for locating here, and I find that irresponsible of them and a damn shame. Tourism is one of the ficklest industries of all. I've watched tourist seasons fail for one reason or another in every tourist destination I've lived. Fortunately, in Florida some of the communities, such as in the Sarasota-Bradenton area where I lived several years, learned to attract alternative industries so folks could still find work when they were laid off from the hotels and restaurants. Others didn't, and they've been having a rough go after being hit hard by hurricanes and losing their tourist industry for at least a couple of seasons. Acapulco had a taste of that for the past 2 years as well, but it still hasn't occurred to the government there not to put all their eggs in one basket. Foolish!

Thierry is a 3rd generation local diver, and no one knows our local waters better than he does. He offers exciting guided tours of the best dive spots around as well as instruction and certification. Fully PADI qualified.
