Ran into Abel at La Valleria II on Playa Principal today where he said he has been working for the last year. Good to catch up with him.

My sentiments exactly.

My wife and I would visit Paty's every year, sometimes twice a year, spending a few days of our vacation there while still venturing out to explore.

A few years and kids later, the little ones would join us as they grew from infant-toddler-preschool-preteen-teen years traveling with us. We always carved out a few days no matter where we were staying to sit under the palms and enjoy seeing Nori and Abel, greeting us like old friends at our arrival.

Paty's felt like out home base. First happy hour when we land, last breakfast before heading home.

She is closing for good. It's true. My landlord is her cousin.

If true, for us this is sad news indeed. Being "beach people", Paty's has been our go-to spot, 5 or 6 days a week, for the past 20 years. We've tried most of the other beach restaurants on La Ropa, but none of them could even touch Paty's for the combination of delicious food, very reasonable prices (except her beer)....and where we could sit for hours without being hassled. We'll miss annually checking-in with other Paty's regulars, (many of whom were, sadly, no-shows this past season)....and those no longer with us, like Lee and Paul. And we'll miss the wonderful staff: Damaso, Nori....we still miss Abel.
Over the years, silly beach regulations had chipped-away at some of the enjoyment, especially the effective ban on chaise lounge chairs, but it was still Paty's. We even got to enjoy "Pavarotti" this past season.

Hopefully, someone will take over the location. Our advise would be "don't change a thing, and keep the staff" but so much for nostalgia. Without Paty, it sure won't be Paty's Mar y Mar. Thank you to her and to the rest of the crew for taking care of us for the past 20 years. We hope you all land on your feet, and look forward to seeing you all again.

Her husband passed away a year, maybe two ago. Since then, she has been closed on Thursday even during high season. We were playing bocce today on the beach when we realized that she and the brothers in front who rent beach toys were closed.
