Zihuatanejo awoke to a light rain that hung around all day. The winds never showed up in downtown Zihuatanejo, but the rain certainly did. Many businesses didn't even bother to open today. Oddly, I kept seeing groups of tourists show up and walk out onto the beach in the rain, but they weren't buying anything at the local shops or restaurants other than Oxxo. I certainly feel for them, but for us a day of steady rain is just what Mother Nature needed. It looks like we'll get a break this Sunday, but that daily rains will likely continue throughout the week.

Fortunately, we live within easy walking distance of the stores and restaurants we like to use, so we don't need to drive anywhere. But even though there were hardly any tourists here today, Scotia Bank's ATM apparently ran out of money anyway. A reminder to get cash if you need it BEFORE the weekend starts.

Today's rain will help replenish our aquifers and rivers, but we still have a long ways to go. But our hills finally look GREEN again! Not looking forward to the arrival of mosquitos. We haven't had ANY in our area of downtown Zihuatanejo since the rainy season ended last November. No jejénes either! It's been amazing. But they will doubtless be back with all the new standing fresh water that inevitably allows them to breed. So be ready. We have screens on all our doors and windows, so our home is pretty bug proof, though I did find a huge red land crab in one of our downstairs bodegas a few weeks back.

Over 11 million of you were noticed by the rest of the world. Impressive. Bravo! Please protect the hard-working immigrants.
