On a more serious note, surge protectors are your friend.

Some people opt for an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) along with a surge protector. They are expensive but will keep your devices running for a few minutes giving you time to shut them down. Some even have software that will notify your computer to shut itself down in the event no one is monitoring the computer.

After driving an RV down here for many years we learned all about different electrical protectors.

Fortunately here, our electricity was undergrounded when we moved in 8 years ago. We monitor the voltage regularly and it seems to be very solid, at least here. When the house was wired/rewired, they did a great job.

We have basic surge protectors where we plug in our computers, but that is it.

This storm was amazing, and had to be responsible for the things that happened.

On a more serious note, surge protectors are your friend. We have a house in Jamaica, which is notorious for utility challenges. After losing several plug-in surge protectors (which did protect our various appliances), we finally had a whole house surge protector added to our electrical panel. We still use the plug-in surge protectors as well. We actually had a really serious electrical issue a few years back where a live wire came down and intersected with the one going to our house, caused a small fire in one of our outlets, but the surge protector protected the TV plugged in there. The overhead fans with electronic controls were zapped, but we were able to convert them to manual control so we didn't have to replace them.

Wednesday night electrical storrn

Not growing up in thunderstorm areas, we both enjoy the storms here. Wednesday nights was insane. Several of the people we see on the beach daily, locals, talked to us about it.

We ordered a thundershirt for our puppy. Her older sisters was too big, but helped.

We had damage, and are still finding it We are by the dolphins on la ropa. The power went out once, for less than a minute. He went outside to check the pool level, and found the lights on, and red. He turned ON the switch, and they came on their normal blue. Turned them off, and they were on, and red. Now they are off, but still red. The remote needs a new battery so we assume we can change that.

The power supply on my third floor computer fried. One of the in wall pool lights is dead. The weather station data logger switched numbers around and now reads 3.09 inches less for the season to date. There may be more things we haven't found.

We have found no signs of a direct hit, nor think we had one.

So, if you live out here and return to a dead appliance or other weird things, chalk it up to the lightning

If anyone has knowledge of this kind of thing, please share!!!
