Monday night a sea turtle tried to make a nest on Zihuatanejo's Playa Principal, but first it ran into all the Disneylandish photo props the city placed on the beach next to Casa Arcadia and it also had to deal with all the bright lights that stress and disorient the turtles both when they nest and when they hatch. A real shame the city government makes nesting harder for them with all the bright lights and beach obstacles. But hey, it's all about appearances with this government.

La Canícula is in full swing, and like the Isley Brothers' song, the heat is on. Though the thermometer only reached 33°C, it felt like about 37°C. Today was a day to move as little as possible, stay hydrated and stay in front of a fan.

I thought it was odd that Telcel's Ixtapa office was closed this Tuesday by Protección Civil due to the lack of air conditioning inside affecting the clients. It's always been nice and cool whenever I've gone there, but lately for some reason they haven't had functioning A/C. Not sure what's up with that. Lord knows they make enough money to pay for it.

Rain remains in the daily forecast, though we haven't seen any for weeks. Rain is forecast for later in the week and the weekend, but I'm not getting my hopes up. This is a yearly pattern, and it might not rain again until mid or late August. ¡Uff!

More visitors showed up today than yesterday. Still not many with the purchasing power we need our visitors to have. Like many local families, we have family coming to visit, and we'll likely patronize a few restaurants and beaches in the next couple of weeks. Now's a great time to visit the inland cities when so many of their inhabitants are at the beach resorts.

A local boutique hotel that certainly is romantic is Tentaciones Hotel & Restaurante. Telcel Ixtapa office has been shuttered for at least the last 2 days. There was some kind of an emergency there last Friday or Saturday with a body on a gurney, ambulance, EMC's, Guardia Nacional, and local and state police.

Since it is shut down, I imagine that there may have been an attempted armed robbery or an attack.

The local media have been reporting that they haven't had A/C for over 20 days and that several clients had succumbed to heat stroke, so that's why their office was closed.
