Shuffle your feet! (reply)

Saw a surfer stung near San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua crying in pain. Soaking the wound in hot water put him at ease... apparently it breaks down the serotonin, or perhaps the phosphodiesterase enzyme, causing the pain. Easy fix compare to, say, a rattlesnake bite. Then there's the wound itself...

Shuffle your feet!

Just a reminder to shuffle your feet when walking into or out of the ocean. I've seen tons of rays (all kinds) from above while snorkeling. For the first time ever, yesterday late afternoon/early evening as I was shuffling my way back to shore at La Madera, I disturbed a small, golden-brown diamond-shaped ray, who scooted away. The water was lower than ankle-deep and I didn't see him before he moved. No one was in the water when I went in, and only two teenagers were near the shoulder-deep water as I walked back out, so there may be lots of them in there chilling while the people are finally gone!
