What About Meta Quest? (reply)

Does anyone know how a Quest is considered coming into Mexico? I expect to be bringing one along with my iPad.

I could see aduana at ZIH getting all over this. As it happens, I will be entering at Mexico City. I don’t imagine this would be a problem there, but I wonder.

VR goggles are considered an accessory, not a computer.

Thanks. I’m still glad that im entering at MEX. I’m not convinced that the aduana folks at ZIH would be as knowledgeable as you. And arguing with aduana at ZIH is as productive as arguing with customs and immigration personnel pretty much anywhere.

New regulations on traveling to Mexico with electronics (reply)

Air Canada just sent me the following. From what I understand you cannot bring a laptop AND a tablet. If you bring both and are searched at the point of entry, you will have to pay a fee of 19% of the value of one article… probably the most expensive one!

AIR CANADA
Regulations on electronics, vaping devices and drones for Mexico and Cuba
June 19, 2025

If you're planning to travel to Mexico or Cuba, please review the following restrictions to ensure compliance with local regulations and to avoid delays or penalties.

These restrictions apply across all entry points-land, sea, and air.

Electronic cigarettes and vaping devices - Mexico and Cuba
It is strictly prohibited to bring electronic cigarettes, vapes and similar devices into the country.
Mexic: The possession of a single device may result in fines exceeding US$1,000. Importing multiple devices could lead to fines over US$100,000 or possible jail time.
Cuba: Any unauthorized devices will be confiscated upon arrival.

Laptops and tablets - Mexico
Each passenger may carry only one laptop or tablet into Mexico.
Carrying a second device may result in a 19% tax on its assessed value.

Drones - Mexico
Travellers must declare all personal drones, regardless of size.
Drones weighing more than 250 g (8.8 oz) must be registered with Mexico's aviation authority, the Agencia Federal de Aviación Civil E (Spanish-language website).
Proof of purchase is required; drones valued over US$500 will be taxed.
Without proof of purchase, authorities will estimate the value and charge accordingly, which may cause delays of over an hour.

For more information, please check with local customs authorities.

Here's what the Mexican government says, and apparently this list hasn't changed for years: Mercancía que puedes ingresar a México
