We have a small colony of bats, we think free tails, that live in two places on our property. They are doing fine. We usually have a few, very few of the big guys, the fruit bats, swooping over the pool while we play after dark. We had, a year or two ago, a mom hanging out nursing her baby. So amazing. Nothing yet, but we'll watch for them and report in.

Bats are very important and so fun.

Amazingly it rained a little this Friday morning and again this late afternoon. Clouds appeared out of nowhere. Helps keep things cooler. None of the beachgoers seemed to mind.

There's a large group of people who have been dancing to old Mexican rock'n'roll blasting from a portable speaker on the waterfront near the swing set this evening. Something that is banned on La Ropa unless it's at a hotel, restaurant or bar. They sure looked like they were enjoying themselves and so was everyone else around them. ¡Muy buena onda!

A lot of visitors showed up today, especially this evening. The waterfront is currently full of families strolling about, and the waterfront restaurants were doing a decent business.

Where have all the bats gone? It's odd enough that we've seen no jejenes on the downtown beach this year, and hardly any mosquitos either, but the fruit bats all seem to have disappeared. All the waterfront Amate trees are fruiting, but there have been no fruit bats swooping at all to eat their fruit as they normally do. None. First time since I've been here that this has happened, Lupita says the same thing, and actually it's a worrisome sign that the local ecosystem is broken. I wonder if they all died from someone fumigating where they live. How totally irresponsible that would be! But we humans have a history of doing such things. I wonder what the Dirección de Ecología has to say about it, if anything.

Zihuatanejo is going to have between 100 and 120 surveillance cameras installed that will be monitored by the state government. A shame we can't trust our own police and our own municipal government with the task since apparently we're paying for it. But it appears to be a step in the right direction unless they simply get shot out and later not replaced by the municipal government. They've made a big difference in Mexico City thanks to the well-trained teams who operate them.

A luxurious private beachfront compound in Troncones featuring a 3-bedroom villa with a private pool, three 1-bedroom MiniVillas, and two side-by-side 2-story 1-bedroom bungalows that share a pool. Truly an oasis in paradise!
