Another overcast morning helped make the morning freshness last a little longer. Some boomers floated by off the coast overnight, but no rain in downtown Zihuatanejo. Once again, it was a perfect day for the beach with very few visitors here to enjoy it, though there appears to be an increase from previous days. A few more sales for downtown merchants, but still rather slow compared to previous years.

One of the things we like about this time of year from now until November is we see our friends and neighbors more as they work less and are out'n'about more. Whether socializing, exercising or just wandering around downtown, we tend to run into each other more at this time of year than when the crowds are here and everyone is working. Some of them close their businesses to take their own vacations, even though they may not actually go anywhere. For a while it even seems like old times.

Another week of summer vacation and then the long slow season begins when locals tighten their belts. Many workers get laid off, and some will move away. Many businesses don't survive this period and they close never to reopen. Others close for a month or three. It's actually a wonderful time to be here while everything is green and there are no crowds. Many lodgings offer excellent off-season rates, and there are no wait times at any of the good restaurants.

Speaking of good deals, one of the loveliest vacation lodgings at La Ropa and one of my favorite properties to promote is Villa Zanzibar, a charming 3-bedroom private villa tucked away in the old original La Ropa community at the southern end of the beach a short easy walk up from the waterfront. Located in one of the most peaceful areas of our community, this is a place to feel relaxed and at home.
