I’m in Zihuatanejo having driven this morning from Troncones.

There were two locations where there were pylons. At one there was Guardia National, but I didn’t see them stopping g any vehicles.

Hi! My boyfriend and I have plans to fly to Zihuatenejo to then go to La Saladita for a surf trip this Friday. I’ve been here multiple times and have never felt unsafe, but am feeling a bit nervous about everything going on. Is there any need to cancel the trip? & will we have any issue driving from the airport to Saladita? Thank you in advance I really appreciate it!

If you've never felt unsafe in Saladita before, a previous local hotbed of criminal activity, then nothing should make you feel unsafe now. The waves are likely to disappoint you more than anything else. You can buy a "I survived my vacation in Mexico" t-shirt. (There's a free million-dollar idea for some entrepreneur)

Actually, it looks like the surf is picking up this weekend, so you're in luck!

Thanks for this reply. I found this message board yesterday as I was trying to get a sense of the situation in Zihua in the wake of Sunday's events and the updated travel advisories. My wife and I are arriving on Saturday for our honeymoon. It seemed silly that Zihua was included in the Do Not Travel advisory and your posts (as well as others here) have provided a ton of reassurance that things will go smoothly!

Let's see. Are coming down to Zihuatanejo to score a few kilos of fentanyl? If so, I would be worried. If you are going to be a happy tourist, then don't flash expensive jewelry, stay remotely sober, and comport yourself as a respectful guest in a foreign country. Have fun!

Here are my recent, second hand, experiences.

I live in Troncones.

On the weekend I hosted veterinarians who performed over 100 spay/neuters on Saturday, then dozens more on Sunday. I offered for them to stay on Monday night as well. The seven veterinarians drove back to Acapulco on Monday without incident.

I know people who were in Saladita over the weekend. Some drove to Troncones yesterday. Others drove to the airport today. All without incident.

I have friends who were in Morelia for several days last week. They took the bus back to Zihuatanejo on Monday without incident.

Today I received a delivery by DHL in Troncones with no problem.

I intend to keep my dental appointment in Zihuatanejo tomorrow.
