It was warm and muggy even before we stepped outside this Tuesday morning. Fortunately, there wasn't so much smoke this morning, but there's still plenty around, and it was noticeable in the air all day. Hills above Coacoyul and Zihuatanejo were being burned today. We're back to sheets-optional weather for sleeping. Now's the time to be acclimating ourselves to what's coming or else we'll be miserable most of the summer. It got up to 35°C today, another hot day. We've got some clouds coming our way from the southwest, so the temperatures should be milder for the next few days. Maybe if we dance to Tlaloc he'll send us some rain.

Local schools opened today even though their calendar shows today as a day of rest for the teachers and students. But from what I saw this morning attendance looked light. The beaches were mostly empty, but there were still a few of our Mexican visitors around, many who appear to be middle-class or better. Good to see, because they're the class of potential visitors we should be working harder to attract.

La Porteña, Café Marina and Sirena Gorda were doing a decent business this evening, but most of the rest of the waterfront restaurants were empty. Some didn't even bother to open.

Not a day goes by that I don't thank my lucky stars that I moved here back in '89.
