Saturday evening we rooted and cheered for Los Diablos Rojos de Toluca when they beat Los Tigres de Nuevo León to win the Concacaf Champions Cup. Then we rooted and cheered for Mexico's national team when they beat Australia in a friendly match. With the Copa Mundial starting in a little over a week, these last minute friendly matches are an important warm up for the teams, and they give us a glimpse of what's to come.

Unfortunately for the wonderful musical event with the Banda Sinfónica de la Secretaría Armada de México at the Cancha Municipal last night, it was mostly attended only by women and children because all the men were watching the fútbol match.

Saturday evening was another night of perfect sleeping weather with mild temperatures, a bright full moon, and the sound of the waves. Sunday morning the beach was full of people even before sunrise as the waves began to grow in size. By the afternoon the waves were so large that the pier at Playa Linda became dangerous and inoperable, causing quite a bit of anxiety for people with tickets trying to get to Isla Ixtapa as well as for those trying to return from the the island. In Zihuatanejo the waves washed entirely over Playa Principal. I had to laugh when a cleaning crew showed up to clean the sand from the walkway, and instead of simply tossing it back out onto the beach, they put it in plastic bags and carted it away in a wheelbarrow. I hope they simply tossed it elsewhere on the beach, but I'm not confident they did.

The waves also washed up into the mess at the pier that used to be the office of the Capitanía. The pier remains in darkness after sunset due to the continued negligence by the municipal government. Waves are reaching around 3 meters along the coast facing the open ocean, and up to 2 meters in Zihuataneo's bay.

One of the videos making the rounds on local social media this Sunday shows a little girl getting washed into Canal La Boquita by a large wave while her parents ignore her and she is unable to climb the dangerous cement wall put there during the last so-called remodeling by the previous municipal administration where they stupidly removed the stairway on the other side of the canal that had been there for decades. It's obvious the recent remodeling design was done by people who didn't regularly use the waterfront walkway and who had no love or respect for Zihuatanejo. They just wanted to bill the taxpayers for all the cement. One of the little girl's lazy and irresponsible family members eventually helped her onto the walkway while folks on the other side of the canal gave him a good chewing out for ignoring her.

PLEASE do business with the people at the Mercado Municipal! They're losing business because of the municipal government's irresponsibly slow remodeling work, and they really need the support of their community now more than ever. It breaks my heart to see so many of them still working under awnings in the streets with the rains expected any day now. The work by the municipal government is going inexplicably slow, and I suspect the neglect by the municipal government is from them trying to do more jobs than they can handle at once in order to bill for the cement while they can. As if they know they're doing something wrong and expect to get caught.

This Monday is Día de la Marina. I'll be surprised if the Travesía de la Bahía swim event across the bay from Las Gatas to Playa Principal is held. The waves are extremely large, and all the fishermen's boats were stacked and tied as high up the beach as they could get them, yet the water was still washing all the way up to the storage areas and the cement wall. The fishermen and the Mexican Navy will head out to Piedra Solitaria early in the morning to lay a wreath in honor of those who lost their lives at sea. Expect rain!

A luxurious 2BR 2-story main house and a 1BR guesthouse, both with A/C, that together can accommodate up to 8 persons, located on the beach with a large sundeck upstairs and a refreshing pool in front of the living and dining area.
