We enjoyed another night of excellent sleeping weather with mild temperatures. It rained lightly sometime during the night. Wednesday's sunrise was overcast, and the morning was fragrant and refreshing.

But something is happening on the horizon. The Capitanía del Puerto closed the port to navigation by small craft outside the bay. So the fishermen are again unable to work. I think that, again, the port closing was a day premature just like the last time since the ocean was calm today. Tropical Storm Simon has formed up off our coast and is currently sitting about 400 km south-southeast of Zihuatanejo and growing. It's expected to become a Cat 1 hurricane by this Thursday evening. It's another slow mover, and it's expected to kiss the coast from Colima northward until it impacts southern Sonora. We can expect plenty of rain and gusting winds. We're also expecting another mar de fondo event. Fortunately our tides aren't currently in their extreme phase. Stay alert to the weather forecast.
https://www.zihuatanejo.net/html/weather.html

The Danzón event this evening in Plaza del Artista this evening was wonderful, but it was way too loud and could damage people's hearing. Not sure why almost every event by the municipal government has its volume at deafening levels. From the pier we could hear it as well as from all along the waterfront. Way too much volume for a tiny little plaza. It's better when the dancers bring their own speaker instead of when the municipal government sets up for them.

I was reminded again today why I cannot give my support to Por Los Niños and Sailfest when its representative today appeared in photos in the local newspapers donating computers to schoolchildren alongside the mayor, who is campaigning for herself and her husband. From the news articles and photos it appears it's the mayor who is doing all the donating. Altruistic organizations should have nothing to do with politicians, yet this organization continues allowing itself year after year to be used as propaganda to bolster the image of a husband and wife team of very ambitious politicians. They're lucky no one yet charged them with violating Art. 33 of the Constitución, because that's precisely what it's intended to prevent.

There were almost no tourists around today. The waterfront was mostly empty this evening. Most of the restaurants closed.

Enjoy your pozole this Thursday! ¡Buen provecho!

Speaking of restaurants, I was mistaken yesterday. The one that replaced Daniel's appears NOT to have closed. All the furniture that was gone yesterday was back in the restaurant today. Odd.

As if La Ropa isn't beautiful enough, this exquisitely designed and decorated lodging is a place one feels instantly at home in. I wish visitors would simply spend more time in lodgings like this instead of cutting down more of our trees and clearing more land to build more vacation and retirement homes. (click to enlarge photo)
