yesterday when he was finished giving me strife after a 30 hr travel, the Seneca inspector was searching thru some other unfortunate soul's luggage. I asked him if he wanted to check the kennel or my dog and he said no. I suspect he was really just a stooge of Aduana,

I guess that varies depending on one’s starting point. Coming from Vancouver with my dog MEX is the better option. I can see that for many people originating from the US it could be less convenient.

Flying AeroMéxico we can typically leave YVR for MEX on an 11:20 p.m. flight, have a 6-8 hour connection at MEX and be at ZIH that day. The return trip is similar.

The Alaska Airlines option would require YVR-LAX, an overnight stay, then on to ZIH. The return trip would require another overnight stay in Los Angeles. I have lost track of what would be required of a Canadian bringing a dog into the US from Canada, then bringing a dog from Mexico into the US.

SENECA at MEX has always been pleasant and efficient. Typically my luggage is checked through from YVR to ZIH and customs/immigration has been a breeze.

One would think that in a tourist destination officials would be more interested in greeting guests than in giving travellers reasons to not return.

Every government official is an ambassador for their city, state, country. Ambassadors ought to represent their country well.

I have been able to avoid aduana at ZIH for st least four years now (a dozen trips) by flying into MEX, then having a domestic flight to ZIH.

Ran into two difficult bureaucrats at the airport today, 14 de Ocotbre.

The animal import gentlemen did not like the fact that my screw worm certificate had information from the week before as my first itinerary was cancelled by Alaska and there is only a 5 day window for use. My vet in Alaska briefly looked at my dog the second time and then signed the same form in blue ink but it was not good enough to please the inspector. I told him that the important pieces of information were original and not photocopy and there was nothing I could do except stay at the airport since my vet was 4000 miles away. He finally relented.

Then Aduana had at me with my plastic tote seeing a 90 day supply and more of medicines and some simple photovoltaic light bulbs I was bringing for a friend. The inspector insisted on charging me $1000 MXN on less than $300 USD in goods. I also had a several year old mi fi device I use for internet and translator device. Both of which were purchased more than 6 months ago. This is a very poor way to get introduced to Zihua.
