Mexican sweet treats? (reply)

My favorite dulce is called ate. It comes in many flavors, usually of the fruits with which it is made, and is quite tasty with a small bit of manchego cheese or cream cheese on top. I was just in Morelia, where ate is a local specialty and an entire downtown mercado is dedicated mostly to this dulce, el Mercado de Dulces.

The candy vendor on La Ropa is our absolute favorite. The penuche fudge is the freshest and most tastiest in all of Mexico and would be a great gift. The coconut treats are great too. I hope he is just on vacation.

Mexican sweet treats? (reply)

No. the youg man selling 'dulces' with his tray and stand has been around over the last week, but not for some time before that. Not really viable when it's quiet I suppose.

We used to be able to buy dulces on La Ropa but no one was selling them when we were there in December.

Does anyone know if that's a permanent thing?

Mexican sweet treats?

What are your favorite Mexican sweet treats and where to buy them?

My extended family gets together for vacation in Zihua and we usually bring small gifts for each other including European dark chocolate bars. I would like to substitute a Mexican equivalent. Is there a good quality Mexican chocolate and where would I find it in Zihua?

Or what is a sweet Mexican treat – something that you treat yourself to on special occasion or take to a friend?

Or even an everyday equivalent of candy bar that is typical in Mexico.

Thanks and a happy, healthy New Year!!
