It just sounded way off base to me. Yes, there are some rentals that aren't quite meeting their legal and fiscal obligations, but the majority are, and it's the hotels who are complaining because more and more folks are staying in alternative lodgings.

As far as dogs on the beach, compared to what fish, birds and people do, I just don't see a problem with pet owners walking and playing with their dogs on the beach. Most folks are very considerate and clean up after their pets. The reporter made it sound like tootsie rolls in a bathtub.

Rob, your Spanish is certainly much better than mine will ever be.

But I think the article mentions "cuartos piratas" as a phrase. I read the article as a general reporting of the (legitimate, but I'm not sure about practically enforceable..) problem of rental facilities, of which condos are just one part, not paying the appropriate taxes---while legitimate hotels etc must pay.

Secondly, I'm not seeing the specific mention of "foreigners" (in the non Mexican sense)...but rather "tourists" in the general sense.

Can you help me parse the article, and maybe help improve a canucks grasp of the language?

The headlines in today's paper "Despertar de la Costa" announce "Ahora podrán entrar con hieleras a la playa". Apparently due to the fact that practically every Mexican tourist brings a styrofoam cooler full of food and drinks (including glass bottles and containers) to the beach the government caved in and went back on their policy, saying they simply ask folks not to break up their styrofoam coolers and to please pick up their garbage. In other words we're right back where we were before Playa El Palmar became "certified".

But there was a photo of some foreign tourists walking their dog on the beach and the article criticized foreigners for all the "contamination" the dogs of foreigners cause. It also criticized foreigners for staying in "condominios piratas".

It boggles the mind!

Don't spend all day on the beach myself but happy to see the Mexican families this weekend and the futbol games put a little life on the beach as it has been pretty dead. Agree though that styro coolers can go but overall, most seem somewhat careful about cleaning up after themselves. Walk the beach mostly on the weekends twice a day just because it is more lively with locales.

The "ecology police" will get them if they bring styrofoam coolers. Other coolers are not a problem.

Sunday at Marina access at least 10 umbrellas were set up and each had some type cooler under.I did not know about regulations but now that I do I will personally throw all these Mexican families off the beach next time they dare to show up here.I assume the soccer games are also not allowed.

Sort of. Styrofoam coolers are banned as are bottles and glass containers. That's why coolers are being searched. It's all because Playa El Palmar was "certified" as a "Playa Limpia", as if THAT'LL get tourists here (and also implying that non-certified beaches are not limpias).

It would be so much simpler to simply fine people for littering.

It seems to say that public access to Playa el Palmar is not being allowed to people with coolers and their own food and drink.
