A nice bonus of traveling to the tropics is the chance to see Crux, the Southern Cross. Unfortunately at this time of year it is most visible around two-thirty or three am, but worth a look if you happen to be up at that time of night. The cross will be low in the southern sky, and the bright star Spica in Virgo with be more or less overhead. Take a look if you can.
