I had an Rx folded in my shirt pocket. The druggist chuckled when I unfolded it for him and waved it off. A nearby dentist scribbled a prescription out after a quick look at the tooth. He did not want payment.

Pharmacy question (reply)

Some farmacias are adhering to the new law and others aren't. Generally those that have adjacent consuling available, are national chains or part of a store (like Bodega Aurrera) require an Rx. Last summer a farmacista sold me a box of Keflex when he saw me in agony with a tooth infection.

Pharmacy question (reply)

Had this happen three weeks ago with my family. An antibiotic was needed and we did not have a prescription. Went to the first pharmacy and they would not sell it. Went to a second and they sold the antibiotic. Understand the new law but not sure it is being equally followed at all locations.

The Abuelita (Little Grandmother) went into a Farmacia on Nicholas Bravo Street.

She asked the pharmacist: "Do you sell V***ra here?"

The pharmacist answered: "Yes we do, and we sell Cia**s as well."

"Can you get it over the counter?"

"Perhaps yes, if I take two."

I was just saying that it is very easy to access a doctor´s care here, and IF she needs a prescription for antibiotics she should be able to get one from a local doctor.

Pharmacy question (reply)

Joa, your reply surprises me, but perhaps I'm just reading it wrong. It sounds like you are suggesting that people bribe doctors to acquire prescription pharmaceuticals, and I find that a very unethical recommendation.

If 1deltagirl has a medical condition requiring prescription medication that she is unable to get in time for her vacation, then yes, she should go to a local doctor who may or may not write her a prescription for the medication she currently uses. That is up to the doctor.

Pharmacy question

I leave for Zihua in two days and am scrambling to get a prescription for some antibiotics for a recurring infection before I leave. I've contacted my own Dr. here at home for a refill and haven't heard back from him yet. I know that new laws were supposed to be implemented last year to crack down on Mexican pharmacies selling antibiotics and other meds without a prescription. Do you think it would be possible to get them at a pharmacy in Zihua w/out a prescription refill? If so, could someone please recommend a pharmacy?
Thanks.
