I had on my 2012 list of places in Zihua where I had the fish tacos and had Los Brasero's marked down as 'not Baja style'. So when I read your posting today I dropped everything and ran there knowing I was going to prove you wrong. What a total and wonderful surprise that it was I that had it wrong. For 89 pesos you get three heavily loaded up "Baja-style" tacos. They use shredded cabbage, rather than lettuce which I like better anyway, beer battered fish, and a small bit of shredded carrots and (a little drum roll here...)some raisins. They sprinkle them on top so easily picked out. The tacos have a mayo/lime mixed drizzle about the same as does coleslaw. They provide a fresh salsa of cilantro/onion/tomato you can add to taste. Great hit- thanks DEBMN. You will know where to find me-

And to "dhnsber's" remarks about Lulu's taco stand in Loreto. We sailed from San Francisco to here in the late '80's and we have always used Lulu's tacos as we passed by Loreto as the benchmark for great tacos. Here we are with her in 1989 in Loreto BCS-
Lulu put four kids as a single mom through college in Mex City just from that taco stand. Yes she finally retired and there was quite a party for her from her many fans.

The best fish tacos I ever ate were at Lulu's in Loreto, BCS. I've heard recently that she has retired and the stand has closed. I guess now one would have to go to El Rey de Tacos there.

I agree with DebMN that Los Braseros in Zihua comes close to that taste and texture found in BCS.

I'll have to wait until next trip to sample those at The Inn At Manzanillo Bay -and to think I was there just a week ago today!

For those of us who in the know about "Baja-style tacos" --

You either know the difference or you don't. After fulltime living on the Baja peninsula for 11 years we thought fish tacos came only one way...the fish is dipped in a beer batter and quickly fried....the corn tortilla is toasted soft and never fried...the stuffing is cilantro/avocado/tomatoes/ onion and shredded lettuce... and some kind of a salsa of course. We move here three years ago and BOOM...that taco is like finding hens teeth...zero-zip-nada! Well the three year search has end at http://manzanillobay.com/ in Troncones. For us old Baja transplants who have never paid more than four bucks for three big fish tacos, the $14 bucks is a big hit BUT hey!!!..it's the only port in a storm for us soft shell NON-deep fried taco lovers. If I were about to start a taco stand here, and using the Baja taco formula, I'd have the whole town in the palm of my hand! What a missed opportunity here. If you know any other place besides Manzanillo Bay Inn that does this please post-

And while I'm at it, we loved the bungalow, the great pool, and super staff service there this weekend, not to mention the fantastic beach-
