The Panhandler part reminded me of my first trip to Mexico. I was at Mismaloya Beach South of PV when a very young boy about 4 YO approached me with his hand out asking for pesos in Spanish. When I refused to give him any money he exploded into a vulgar tirade in English accusing of having intercourse with my Mother.
Funny but also very sad.

This isn't a Zihua problem but a worlwide one.Everybody wants everything cheap and many are just looking for the cheapest price on everything and don't care why it is cheaper in one place compare to most others.And they don't think of the implications.You see it with restaurants,you see it with the Wallmart of the world,and on and on...

The only part I can't agree with is the part where it says to "buy stuff on the street". The informal economy is a HUGE problem in Mexico. Everyone wants services but no one wants to pay taxes, so the few of us who do pay taxes realize no improvement in the services we supposedly pay for but instead see politicians buy votes and commit all kinds of shenanigans with our tax money. For example, if we're going to help poor people acquire affordable housing the first thing we shouldn't do is allow them to steal public land where it will cost over 3 times per capita to provide the services they will need as it costs to provide similar services for the rest of the population. That's just plain stupid. Also, for the folks with established shops who pay rents, taxes, employees, bills, and accountants it is simply impossible to compete with folks selling the same or similar products on the street, even worse when they are sold on the street in front of their shops. All they ask for is a level playing field.

So next time you've got a mouthful of food you bought from a street vendor and you're wondering why all the local restaurants are going out of business, tap yourself on the back. Maybe it'll get your attention.
