What'll happen to the water taxis that go over to Las Gatas while the new pier is under construction?

That's a good question that our local government has so far not replied publicly on as far as I know. Like Carol says, they can use the beach, but I suspect they could also try to use the area at the entrance to the lagoon. They SHOULD have built a small temporary dock for this purpose, but...

I'm not having any luck locating a photo online of the plans (we have a MAJOR transparency problem with our municipal government), but from what I've seen it looks like the new pier will be a little bit longer and have a large crosspiece like a T at the end. A friend said that they believed the T at the end will be a floating pier, but I'm not sure. I have been proposing for years that the government use a floating pier to receive the cruise ship tenders as well as for the local water taxis since they are much easier for most folks to embark and disembark from.

Thanks for the photos Rob. Does anyone know what the new pier will look like. Have you seen any plans? How long to re-construct? I can't see them dragging their heels on this one as the pier is vital to life in Zihua.

We've just experienced quite a bit of wind here in Bloomington, Minnesota. I was preparing lunch and the electricity was iffy at best. Things have calmed down a bit now. I happened upon your pictures and found them to be calming and beautiful as always. My hubby is on the new light rail that was starting today! Hope to hear from him soon.

Haha! Frankly no. They're already in campaign mode which means money from every project gets siphoned off to buy votes in the squatter communities, which is precisely why those communities exist and are allowed to remain where they are. Wait until they try to start building a cruise ship pier outside of Zihuatanejo Bay. That's when some serious fun will begin.

Z Twilight Stroll

Last evening the waterfront was the place to be. The bay was extremely calm after several days of high surf from the passing of Cristina. There was a welcome gentle breeze, and as it often does, it seemed like a magical time to be in Zihuatanejo. Wandering musicians were out as well as families and lovers, all enjoying the early evening sights and sounds.

As my wife, Lupita, and I strolled along with our chihuahua Lola we greeted and spied many friends and neighbors along the way to and from the pier including our dear friend Joaquín who just opened his new restaurant "La Porteña" next door to one of his former restaurants "Casa Elvira". At the main plaza folks were doing the traditional dance known as danzón in the gazebo.

Even though the sky looked like it was threatening to rain, no rain came and it was just another humid and balmy evening in the tropics.

We're trying to enjoy as much as we can the last days of Zihuatanejo's pier before it gets torn down and rebuilt. Like the puppy dog said when he got his tail shut in the door, it won't be long now.
