Rob -- an interesting story to be sure. Actually, I was thinking of a place called La Mahajua, which I think is a bit north of Troncones.

La Majahua at Troncones is easy. Just go to Troncones and hang a right. After you pass Playa Manzanillo and pass a sharp curve to the right you'll arrive at another curve to the right where there are restaurants on a small rise overlooking a long beach with very little on it except for sand. Surfers are usually the giveaway that you've found THE SPOT. Easy peasy. Y'all will love it!

The gates there are wide open now, and you can drive down to the beach. Lots of areas where the road has been overgrown and some garbage dump areas. There has also been an abandoned paint ball Parklike place that is overgrown. We drove all down in there one day in Feb. Would not have done it at night.

The gates certainly weren't wide open when I drove past there 2 days ago. I drive by there regularly. Since it is private property as well as a common dumping ground for things you and I don't want to find, I don't recommend anyone go exploring the area there.

I'm sure this is very simple, but have never done it. Could someone please post driving directions from Zihuatanejo to Playa Majahua?

If you're referring the the Playa Majahua between Zihuatanejo and Ixtapa there is no car access. You have to park at the abandoned guard house on the Carretera Escénica La Majahua and walk down the road to the beach, something I unfortunately can't recommend due to the utter absence of police vigilance and the fact that even the police themselves have been known to rob people at La Majahua. Just ask the firemen.

If you'll use the Google Map on my MAPS page you'll see where Avenida Morelos runs westward past Cinco de Mayo towards La Noria. To get to La Carretera Escénica La Majahua turn right at the gas station and go up the hill to a poorly made intersection with a sort of roundabout (watch for the 2 topes on the way up the hill). Turn left, and just past the next tope is the intersection with La Carretera Escénica La Majahua clearly marked (if you go straight you end up in La Noria). Turn right and go straight up the hill. You'll see a sign on the left for Puerto Mío. Don't take the road to Puerto Mío unless of course that's where you want to go. After a sharp right and then a sharp left curve you'll be at the big gates with the abandoned guardhouse for the abandoned Majahua development of Raúl Salinas de Gortari, corrupt brother of ex-president Carlos. Raúl spent 10 years in jail for murdering his brother-in-law the ex-governor of Guerrero, for which he was acquitted. Raúl was also accused of illicit enrichment since he couldn't explain how he made the 110 million dollars that were in a Swiss account under a false name which were frozen by the authorities for a number of years until recently when most of the money was returned to him along with the land at La Majahua. A lovely story, don't you think?
