I also love the avocado shrimp salad at Paty's on La Ropa. Unfortunately, they are closed. Not sure for how long, but likely until October. Bandido's does some good Mexican style dishes. Los Braseros is 100% real Mexican food, and popular with locals so you are pretty much assured that everything is fresh.

Go out to La Barra de Potosi and spend the day eating at La Condessa. You may be the only gringo's there this time of year but you will get real Mexican seafood there fresh from the ocean. If you have a car, any little place in La Barra in the evening serves fantastic "real" Mexican food as the locals all eat there.
In town, we like Papa Loca and Los Braseros. We like El Mangalar for a nice lunch along La Ropa but we usually order seafood. We like many hole in the wall places. If you see lots of locals at lunch in the mercado, give it a try.

I agree with Anny's for good size portions- we love her chille rellenos that we split for lunch when we order Mexican Sauce and guacamole. Our very favorite is El Arrayan on Calle Adelita. At night he grills out on the side of the street and during the busy time you may have to wait for a table. We love to go there for breakfast and sit at a table between the stairs coming down from the bridge crossing the canal- we just love sitting there and watch the street traffic after we eat drinking end less cups ofcoffee. There are a lot of little places between Villa Mercedes walking toward the bay- the street has really become popular again since the street was repaired.

Way too many good restaurants to have a top 10. Los Braseros sure comes to mind (plus it is just down the street from a great tequila shop. If you go, don't have the fish tacos until near the end of the trip or you may find yourself going there too often and missing out on other meals. I could sure use a fix of those tacos.

If you are looking for MEXICAN food I would recommend Los Braseros and Tamale Anys both on Calle Ejido. Chuleto, and El Med are Mexican food restaurants. Bandido's also is open year-round and serves Mexican style dishes. They are across from the church on Cinco de Mayo.

Banana's on Nicolas Bravo, Dona Licha, and La Tertula for breakfast, lunch

Our favourites are Coco Bahia Botanas y Tapas (walk over the bridge by the port), turn left and walk up the hill with sea to your left)- well worth the walk. Also good are Rufo´s Grill on Calle Adelita and El Agave on Nicolas Bravo, no 49.

None of these are open this time of year, strictly Gringo season.
But, downtown Chuleto is open and always delicious and El Mediteraneo by the church on Cinco de Mayo.
