I was standing in La Condessa and the water was lapping up to where they had placed sand bags.

When I go I will take better photos.

This one was taken just to show how hard it must be raining in Zihua and nothing in La Barra. You can barely see the foundation of the restaurant.

One Answer (reply)

WHAT WAS THE DD/MM/YYYY OF THE FREEDOM FROM sPAIN?

Father Miguel Hidalgo y Castillo declared independence from Spain on September 16, 1810, but it took a lot of bloodshed and suffering to bring an end to Spanish rule, and it wasn't until the 27 of September in 1821 when the Ejército Trigarante (the Army of the Three Guarantees) rode into Mexico City that independence was finally realized, though a constitutional republic wasn't formally formed until years later on October 4, 1824 with the approval of the Constitución de los Estados Unidos Mexicanos.

Day 4 Under Z Hurricane

Odile is now a hurricane and basically just sits there gaining strength over the warm waters of the vast Pacific. Residents of beaches facing the open ocean have reported huge sometimes scary waves washing up into their properties. I can't imagine it's much fun for the big hotels and condos in Ixtapa. And Playa La Madera is the beach in our bay that also suffers the worst from the big waves since they tend to come straight in at that beach, which doesn't have much slope or any real elevation like most beaches, so the waves wash all the way up to the buildings.

So the surf is definitely up, and the tourists are arriving by the busload though not many by car for the long holiday weekend to celebrate Mexico's independence from Spain. There's been a light drizzle most of the evening and this morning, but the sun keeps threatening to peek through, as it did during the spectacular sunrise this morning of which I only caught the tail end after most of the bright colors had faded. But it was still worth a photo. Hope you like it!
