Hurricane NOT expected, but... (reply)

If you click on my Facebook link at the bottom of the page you'll see a video I just shared of the downtown beach that was posted by a friend. Now it's getting real dark out even though the sun doesn't set for another hour. I expect it's fixing to rain real good.

Hurricane NOT expected (reply)

We seemed to have dodged that bullet except for the folks on the open ocean who again have taken a pounding with super high surf. The surf was so high in the bay that it almost washed over into the street. It reached all the way to the buildings along my end of the beach: from the museum to Tata's restaurant. It almost took out the palapa at Casa Arcadia, which still isn't out of the woods yet. So if it was that bad for us in the bay then all the folks along the open ocean at Playa Larga, Playa Blanca, Playa El Palmar, and all the way to Troncones and Saladita must be dealing with quite a bit of damage.

On a lighter note, our ahijado Miguel "Tarzan" Galván rescued three lovely Brazilian tourists who'd been caught in the undertow at Playa La Ropa while playing in the surf. Out of all the lifeguards and other folks on the beach he was the only one with the courage to actually enter the water when the damsels appeared in distress. I'm not surprised in the least that he would do so.

Hurricane expected (reply)

"Farther south in the Pacific, Tropical Storm Polo formed off southern Mexico Tuesday evening. It was centered 235 miles (375 kilometers) south-southwest of Acapulco with maximum sustained winds of 50 mph (85 kph), and was moving northwest parallel to the coast at 12 mph (19 kph). The hurricane center predicted that Polo could become a hurricane by Wednesday night."

That still puts this off Z/Ixtapa

Dave

It's predicted to be much closer to Colima and Jalisco by 11:00pm tonight when it is expected to become a hurricane. This is pretty much the same thing that happened with Norbert and Odile.

Well that's good because the 12mph movement is slow. I hope it does go north before going full hurricane.

Tropical Storm Polo is here

The third in a series of back-to-back tropical storms/hurricanes has arrived to the coast of the Zihuatanejo-Ixtapa region. It's currently raining lightly in downtown Zihuatanejo and classes were canceled at all the local schools. Everyone is a bit anxious because this storm is a little closer to the coast than the last one, and heavy-to-torrential rains are predicted for the coast of Guerrero, according to the Servicio Meteorológico Nacional.

Hold on and enjoy the ride everyone! Be careful and help your neighbors.
