Most Zihuatanejo breaker panals are Square D QO models. See link for the whole house surge breaker. Your panal must have 2 adjecent slots available for installation. My husband has a couple left over from our construction projects which he will part with if you are interested after seeing if they will do the job. We have them in our units and have had no problems since installation 10 years ago.

Thanks for the replies. Will be looking into the whole house surge as well as voltage regulator.

If you own your unit and have access to the breaker panel you could consider a whole house surge protector or MOV. Unlike surges strips MOV's are built to shunt large surges and can last for years. They install like a breaker in your panel.

If you just want to protect sensitive equipment then a good UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) with surge protection is another option to consider.

This isn't any answer for your question but very early yesterday morning here on playa La Madera we were woken up by the TV in our room going on and the AC on the opposite wall going off. Gotta love Mexican electricity!

Voltage regulator for sure for Computer etc. at least. I hear mine clicking all the time when the voltage goes up and down. Surge protectors burn out after surges and leave you unprotected with a power strip.

Hi,

I thought I would try here to see if anyone could help me.

Our complex recently has had a few power surges which has damaged a few appliances during the recent storms.

Is this a common problem in the area and what can be done to reduce the damage that the surges cause. Is it advisable to implement a voltage regulator on our unit or is surge suppression enough or even implement both?

Thanks for any information anyone can shed.
