You would think that repairing the pier would be a great way to buy votes for the upcoming election! Isn't there someone running who is the concrete king

No one who is running for mayor actually gives a shit about anything except winning and filling their pockets. The "concrete king" is spending all the money he pocketed from the bloated budgets he "won" the public contracts for, including while holding public office, trying to win votes from all the land thieves on our hillsides. He's even getting help from some foreigners who think they're helping schoolchildren. It's so pathetic it's almost hilarious. Almost. The town's REAL community (non-squatters and non-municipal government workers) is thoroughly disgusted at the deplorable conditions this mayor has allowed to befall our town. He's completely neglected most every sector and every neighborhood. Now the folks who hadn't really been paying much attention are starting to wonder where the 30 million pesos went that he led folks to believe he'd already spent on the pier and that he boasted about in his recent Segundo Informe.

This is one of the mayor's publicity promos he used during his recent Segundo Informe. It says "Rebuilding of the Municipal Pier. Achievements that make history." It would be funny if it weren't so pathetic.

Rob, have you heard what they are going to do about getting people to Las Gatas and back? This could be a real back breaker for the restaurants and boat operators!

The little dock in the photo is going to serve as the interim "pier". I imagine things are going to get pretty crowded and backed up so that the beach will also probably be used. Supposedly a floating pier is also contemplated, something that should've been added to the main pier years ago and a suggestion I have made often over the years.

That's very sad about the pier -some of the earlier pics showing the broken parts exposed concrete that was way too thin in the first place; surprised it lasted as long as it did.
Meanwhile, your photos of the bay speak volumes about why so many of us will return again and again. Con't wait for March to roll around again!

Well the pictures are magnificent as usual...and you know what? There is no place my wife and I would rather be either but alas, that is simply not possible at this time. I'm sorry things have headed downhill there politically and otherwise. We've been coming for a week at a time for about 10 years now, and we haven't noticed things getting so bad. Probably because we spend every waking moment absolutely thanking god for every moment we get to spend there. We always find something or someone new that positively re-enforces our love of your city. The pier is a real bummer, sure hope it either gets fixed or replaced soon.

So now we have no pier in Zihuatanejo. It is officially closed and our one cruise ship arrival until next year was officially cancelled and we are officially screwed by our inept officials. Yet I can't help but get this sensation of déjà vu, like I know we've been here before. But truthfully, things have never been so bad in Zihuatanejo. This is what rock bottom looks like. This is what the Peter Principle as it related to public administration tries to warn us about.

But you know what? FUGGEM! Zihuatanejo, even with all its faults and all the ravages due to greedy unscrupulous and inept "public servants" is STILL one of the most beautiful and peaceful places in all the world, and there is simply no other place my wife and I would rather be! Though it is going to take a while to get used to no more walks on the old pier.

Lots of fishing pangas were working the bay this morning. And a turtle nest, too.

With our large beautiful bay, this is all we have for a pier at the moment. Can you believe it? Not sure whether to laugh or cry or hire a private army.

Already feeling nostalgic. *sigh*
