Day of the Dead in Morelia (reply)

Crowded - yes, overpriced, not at all. We had a great hotel (although Expedia messed it up and we had to pay for our reservation twice) right across from the Cathedral. we paid around $90/night and it was fabulous.

We did do a tour on the night of the night of the 1-2 that went to several sights. I wouldn't do that again as there was very little time to visit the cemetaries and there were waaaaaaaay too many people. I would hire a private guide to take me to a smaller cemetery away from the tour buses.

I loved Morelia as there were so many things going on. I can't figure out how to post pics here but you can see some of them at Ward Cameron Photography

I would definitely go back to Morelia again.

Day of the Dead in Morelia (reply)

You might also think about the Day of the Dead celebration in Oaxaca. I've heard that it's one of the greatest. Jane Robison, an old friend and owner of Casa Colonial (a great place to stay), offers cultural tours in the area; among others: Dia de los Muertos. Highly recommended!

Day of the Dead in Morelia

We are coming to Zihua on the 29 and have a room booked in Morelia for 5 days. As a photographer I would love to make the most of the time there. We plan on also visiting the area of Patsquaro but we are totally new to the festival and the area. Are there must do(s)/see(s)? We're open to all ideas on this.
