How nice that you want to share your teaching gift in Zihua!
I'll add to the small chorus suggesting you contact Laura Kelly in La Barra de Potosí. My wife and I designed and laid the groundwork for a project down there a few years back. Laura was very open to new ideas and both she and the kids & their families are truly grateful for the support. Plus, La Barra is an unforgettable place to work.

I can't urge you enough to attend the first Sailfest meeting next Tuesday at 10:00 at Casa Arcadia. "Por Los Ninos" non-profit is involved in all aspects of helping disadvantaged children in the area. There are numerous ex-teachers that help a little to helping a lot in the schools and interacting with the children in the community. There is always a need for volunteers and sailfest is not only worthy, it is a great deal of fun and if new to the community you will meet many folks that make a real difference in the lives of numerous children and in the community.

My husband did this for a few years. Just pick a school that is convenient for you to get to and go chat with the director (in Spanish of course). He or she will check with the teachers to see who might like another body in the classroom. If you want to chat more about hubby's experience, just click on the envelope by my name and email me.

Volunteering in a school

I a relatively new to Zihua and am interested in working in (not donating to) a school. I am a retired teacher in the U.S. and would like to help out in some capacity in which I am working directly with children. I haven't seen anything about volunteer opportunities in schools except for fund raising. I speak Spanish at a very basic level but usually can get myself understood. Does anyone know of a school or some other organization that can use a hand working with children? Thank you.
