I won't say never, because I've been told that is a long time, buy a used car here. Look at what you want in a new one and go to the dealership that offers that. Do this first. If you do not like the vehicles or the price go inland.

Apparently the dealerships here in Zihua do not regularly carry used cars. If you happen to just time it right, great. If you want to make your purchase at a specific time, and have a specific make/mode/year in mind, as we did, this is very unlikely to be successful. We bought our in Mexico City and are very happy with it. We learned that, for example, Nissan will have 2 or 3 locations where they stock all the used cars for the dealerships. Similar with other brands. Buying from the dealership was very easy-no hassles at all.

Used cars in Zihua and/or Mexico (reply)

We have purchased 2 used cars in Mexico in the last 5 years and have been very satisfied with them both. The process though is not easy. We found the cars we wanted through mercadolibre.com . One we got in Aguascalientes and one in Queretaro. If you are not that particular about make and model you can probably find what you are looking for in Morleia. I agree with Will that purchasing a car at altitude and not from this area as a great number of benefits, such as salt air and cost. We have found that whereever you get the car there is usually a mechanic that will look at it for you and there is a website called repueve.com.mx that you can enter the vin to make sure it has not been stolen. Usually there are government offices that deal with this as well, I would stay away from cars that are not plated nationally because that can be a pain. If you use a dealer you can save yourself some of this worry but will pay for it. This is not a bad way to go if you are crunched for time and want to make sure of things. I hope this helps.

Most people go to Uruapan or Guadalajara to used car shop. There are other spots as well. Reasons being, better prices (used car prices in Zihua are ridiculous), more selection and no exposure to salt air...

There are some websites or FB pages with listings locally and in the other places as well. The one here that I know is on FaceBook and it is zihuautos. Keep us informed of your progress as you aren't the only one looking.

Used cars in Zihua and/or Mexico

We are curious as to how and where to purchase a good used vehicle in Mexico and in particular Zihuatanejo. I have noticed the odd location where cars are lined up with $$$ signs in the windows and there is usually someone around. And of course there are those that are still being driven with $$$ and phone numbers in the back window.

I have not noticed any used vehicles at any of the car dealers in town but then maybe I'm just not looking in the right place.

I am wondering if we should be looking in town or should we go to a larger centre (Morelia?) or should we just consider buying a new one from a dealer instead?

Thanks for any and all information. And no this is not, at least right now, a call for offers to sell me your car but thanks anyway!
