Just by looking at the fence placed there it looks like it's been divided into Zona Federal and Propiedad de la Armada de México. Locals are keeping an eye on it to make sure no one tries to do anything with it since we believe it should remain undeveloped.

No, Bahía de Zihuatanejo actually has EIGHT beaches.

1) Playa Principal
2) Playa Lerdo de Tejada
3) Playa Manzanillo
4) Playa La Madera
5) Playa La Ropa
6) Playa Las Gatas
7) Playa Contramar
8) Playa Almacén

The last two have been essentially privatized and have limited access. Playa Almacén has pretty much been ruined by the boat ramp that Puerto Mío built that hardly anyone ever uses, and Contramar has been defaced almost beyond recognition in violation of numerous federal laws. But hey, there are laws for the common folk and laws for rich and influential.

I'm confused but that photo looks like it was taken from Playa Principal by the canal.

It's the small beach right before arriving to La Madera walking from town. You pass two small sandy coves walking from Playa Principal to Playa La Madera:

Playa Lerdo de Tejada (aka Playa Almeja)

and Playa Manzanillo (aka Playa Caracol)

Lay Z Afternoon

Though during the middle of the day the sun and the heat can be a bit too strong, the early mornings and the late afternoons are perfect times for getting oot and aboot, as some of my Minnesnowta and Wiscahnson friends like to say. Sometimes we take L'Ola la Chihuahua and sometimes we take our grandson and sometimes we take both, and we mosey off in one direction or another, maybe for a cool refreshment or a hot snack, and sometimes we just look for a little space where we can stretch our legs and let everyone run around and play while we sit and hold hands and remember way back when life was simpler and the future seemed endless.

Here's a simple little photo from a few days ago taken during the late afternoon at Playa Las Manzanillas (aka Playa Caracol). Got to enjoy the peace and quiet at this beach while it lasts because the mayor's family has a home there and they've been working on a bar there which when it opens will inevitably bring along drunks and noise, and another beachfront lodging is also apparently claiming the beach there for their business. In the blink of an eye this tranquil little piece of heaven can become something else entirely, and if you don't cherish things like this now you won't know what you've got till it's gone.
