We used to do something similar. The big issue for us was returning thru LAX and having to clear customs, change buildings, recheck your bags and go through security again. The LAST time, we had 2 1/2 hrs between planes and almost missed our flight to Van! Never Again!

We have done that as well.......I do prefer to fly as we did last year YYJ to SEA, SEA to LAX, LAX to ZIH on Alaska Air.. The only reason we didn't do it this year was that Air Canada flight was there to ZIH in 1 day. Lesson learned

AC gave me the trip to hell, which was really Ottawa, in Oct. That's the last time I put up with that!!! Thank goodness we have WestJet!
When I have an early flight out of YYJ, I go down and spend the night at the Western 66 at Hwy 17 & Mt Newton X Road. It is clean, reasonable and they'll let you leave your car there while you're gone!!! Just order a taxi before you go to bed, and you're all set.

Trip Report Day 1

We arrived a day later then planned.........better then no coming at all which almost happened....... The night before we were to leave our extended family had an emergency that had it not turned out favourably we would have had to cancel our trip........it did work out and we got home to finish packing.........we were to get up early in the morning to go to Victoria to catch our 5:30 am flight to Vancouver then non stop to Zihua........Mrs Grumpy went to bed about 9 as wake up call was 2:45 am.........our oldest was driving us to the airport and our other daughter informed me at 9:30 pm that the Malahat was closed due to an accident and wasn't expected to open until 3 am..........the dreaded Malahat always a wildcard as to stay down in Victoria the night before or take your chances........ There was a detour in place and it would just mean a little earlier departure then planned....... Considering it is usually closed due to a fatality our dilemma was quite minor.........a huge wind storm hit overnight and the power went out about 2:00 am..... We got up and got ready and left through a highway of branches and debris but the Malahat had reopened and we got to the airport at about 4:30 checked in and hoped the wind and rain storm wouldn't delay us.......we boarded the plane on time but after 3 attempts to cycle the engines there was a problem with something and we had to deplane and get our luggage........ Mrs Grumpy and I have seen this movie before and as she went to get them luggage I went to the ticket counter and also called Air Canada to see about new flights as I doubted we would make our connection and get to Zihua today....... I was waiting in the ticket line and had made arrange tents on the phone to get another flight to Vancover and then as far as LA today and then on to Zihua tomorrow .........the same as we did last year on Alaska Air .....but when I found a flight last Feb that got us there in 1 day I took it .......looks like Zihua will have to wait 1 more day....... I was just about to say yes and the agent at the desk said that those travelling to Zihua go to security and re board the plane as it was cleared to fly.......okie dokie........back thru security and onto the plane and off we went to YVR......very bump ride as the weather was worse and the storm that was expected had moved in......I was sure that if we were able to make the flight our luggage wouldn't as it was very close to departure time of the non stop to Zihua when we landed at YVR.......we pulled to a stop at the gate and they told us to see the agent inside as they couldn't hold the plane any longer and they would be rebooking us on other flights.....we hadn't even left Vancouver and our trip to Zihua was all ready an adventure.........Zihua would have have to wait 1 more day ..........
