La Comisión de Transparencia (reply)

Regarding all the incompetance and questionable financial going on in Zihua, I would like more info regarding this group. Hopefully they are not politically sponsored but a real independent body. Just think if they were really effective, there idea could correct many ills in Zihua and the state gov´t. Maybe Guerrero could live up to its name and really make some positive changes for the populace instead of the connected few

It's kind of hard to extricate politics, but these folks are just trying to step up and do their part by obtaining documents under our transparency laws in order to identify misappropriations of public funds and unlawful awarding of public contracts. There is currently more than one group doing this, and I even published an article on one of my blogs regarding one example where millions were committed by the local administration for the purchase of LED street lamps without respecting the law regarding State congressional approval for contracts awarded without being opened to public bidding. The local government got caught breaking the law, but even though a judge ordered them to turn over the respective documentation they have so far not done so and have incurred at least one minor fine. We expect them to continue denying access to incriminating documents until after the June 7 elections. Since fines against municipal governments are picked up by the taxpayers the politicians couldn't care less.

A search of articles in local online newspapers should easily locate news of this group's activities over the past year or so since they formed up.
