Seeing the early morning pictures reminds me of when we were staying at Villa Morro and looking down at the pelicans on the fishing boats. The funny 1 was a fisherman using a net to catch bait from the back of his boat and all the pelicans on the front. The air was so fresh that morning with just a light breeze hitting us as we were sitting out on the balcony drinking our coffee and enjoying the view.

Still Z Fishing Village

In spite of our terrible municipal government and the avarice of politicians and developers, Zihuatanejo continues being what it's always been: a fishing village. The days always begin with the arrival of dozens of fishing pangas who supply our town with fresh seafood and who supply their families with their daily sustenance. It's a scene that has changed very little over the decades since my first visit here in 1974 and one that is unlikely to change much in the coming decades. What with the whims of tourism and modern economies, it's a damn good thing so many local families have their men of the sea to rely on. And it ain't too bad to be a pelican here either.
