The PCR covid test in clinica mediciel

by Evita, Tuesday, January 05, 2021, 19:26 (161 days ago)

Hey guys,

Just found out that clinica Mediciel will offer the PCR test for covid soon. They found out today themselves following my question, as you may know canadians must have pcr negative test results in a maximum of 3 days prior to their flight, to be able to board their plane from mexico.

So, i didn't find any place that do the pcr test except clinica mediciel. They told me the price is 6000 pesos plus 240 for payment with a credit card. If you take the test 72 hours before your flight, they are able to give you the results 24 hours before your flight.
I didnt investigate yet if some insurances cover that, but I don't think so.

6000 pesos? Ouch! Sounds like someone sees an opportunity to exploit you.

Yes, I know, it's very expensive. But the negative covid PCR test is mandatory for canadians for them to board the plane, and mediciel is the only clinic who provides it in Ixtapa Zihuatanejo for now. It seems that the clinic has to send the swabs to Morelia for testing, that may explain the higher price. But one way or another, all clinic charge a lot for these tests.

Here are a compilation of information about testing in Ixtapa and Zihua, from a trip adviser forum thread:
"1. "Only the General Hospital and IMSS hospital are receiving and treating covid19 patients. If you suspect you may have covid you must see a physician first for initial examination and medication and be presenting symptoms before getting the free covid19 test at the centro de Salud Embalse or General Hospital. This information comes from the assistant director of the General, Dr Immanuel Morales."

2. Laboratorio Solano offers the blood test for antibodies at a price that seems to vary between 2000-5000 pesos. As well, it was learned that Nucleo De Diagnostico Del Pacifico next to Pollo Feliz offers the nasal swab test, but they do not have the machine to process that test here in Zihua, so the swab is sent off to Morelia and results are available in 3-5 days. The cost is 4500 pesos.

3. Clinica Mediciel (one of our private hospitals) offers the blood test for antibodies for 2000 pesos as well as the nasal swab test for active virus at the price of 4000 pesos with results for either test within 30 minutes. The the nasal swab for active virus is the "covid quick test". It is not a machine for diagnosis; it is a swab and then some sort of "litmus" type test that looks similar to a pregnancy test and is supposedly 97.1% accurate. www.Mediciel.com.mx"

The PCR covid test in clinica NDP

by Casa Juan @, Monday, January 11, 2021, 12:18 (155 days ago) @ Evita

After two days of having a fever, no appetite, zero energy this past weekend, I got a PCR test at the NDP Clinic across Paseo Del Riscal from Pollo Feliz.

I got there at 10 am today 1/11/21 expecting to make an appointment, but instead was seen and tested within 15 minutes for a cost of $3,780 pesos which is down from the posted price of $4,200. I was told I may not see the results until 48 hrs +/- which I am ok with as the fever seems to have subsided.

Will report back after I am notified. NDP's phone # is 755 125 3118.

When you do have symptoms, you can be tested for free in the general hospital though (I think!). Or, your insurance is supposed to pay for that, but only when you have symptoms. Hope youll get better soon!

Hola Evita. Insurance is not common in most of Mexico. Not part of our culture. Especially here in Guerrero. Some folks have car insurance, and folks from other places might have other insurance, but that's about it. Folks from here who work for a living have no use for it.

The cost for me will fall under my yearly deductible for Medicare supplemental. I have plan G and always submit my medical bills from Mexico with mixed results. I did not go to the hospital because I was able to pay for it, and others who could not pay needed it more than me.

Also the service was so quick I did not think twice about paying and having the test.

Will report back when I get the results but I feel better already!

Im happy you feel better! I don't know precisely the situation in zihuatanejo, but I didn't think there was a scarcity of test at the hospital. From what I've heard, you are asked to go to the general hospital if you have covid symptoms cause that's where covid patients are sent. But I could totally be mistaken!

Evita I am only one reporter, please consider the experiences others may have had recently.

In a pinch, I would go to the hospital general.

All private medical services I have received here , San Miguel and in Queretaro required me to pay and then it was up to me to seek some reimbursement from whatever insurance I might have.

This is the notice allegedly being sent to Canadians by Air Canada apparently from the local government although I cannot find it on ANY official government website or social media account, so I cannot verify its authenticity.

PCR/LAMP Lab Tests: Choose wisely!!

Hi!

First- thanks for posting that, Rob!

The Canadian government added more info; a PCR or LAMP testing result will be accepted within 96 hours (instead of 72 hours) from the scheduled time of departure, until 00:01 EST on January 14, 2021.

Updated Candian Covid test requirements as of 07-January-2020

What follows below is what we learned about local PCR testing. I will update when we have LAMP testing info.

My husband and I just helped a Canadian amigo returning on Saturday with all of the above, making calls and visits to the labs. Yes, the costs are high, and it takes over 24 hours to return the official results.

In the end, we are taking our friend to Zihua Lab. The 24-hour return claim is nice- but there can be too many variables. We felt it best to go with the thought of a 48-hour window.

Don't forget to make an appointment!!

We also saw that official photo of lab choices after all our research. I suppose it would have saved us some time... But in the end, we would have made the calls ourselves to confirm.

Happy to help and serve where needed!

-Sandra
