Closed public access to La Ropa

by hromero ⌂ @, Friday, March 19, 2021, 09:11 (96 days ago)

The public access next to La Perla has been closed since last March when all the beaches were closed down. I kind of understood why they closed it at the time. I was annoyed when they didn't re-open it when they re-opened the beaches but were doing a simulation of health checks at other entrances, limited resources and all that. However, it has been months since anyone has been doing any kind of checking at the entrances to La Ropa beach and this access remains closed. I have sent communications via the Zihuatanejo government site with no replies as of yet. Does anyone know what the story is?

The city government is going to "remodel" La Ropa's beach accesses and pour a few more tons of concrete on the beach. One of the accesses will include huge ugly concrete letters that say "La Ropa" so tourists will pose with the letters instead of posing on the actual beach, and the people who sell the concrete will feel like artists being honored. There may be a tad of sarcasm mixed in there with my disgust. So this closure maye have to do with that. Or maybe not.

Thanks Rob. I had read that they intend to remodel the entrance near La Gaviota. The pictures you have posted all appear to be related to that entrance. I haven't seen those pictures before so thanks for sharing them. I don't see anything though about the entrance I am concerned about. They did remodel that whole street early last year though which included improving the parking spaced in front of this now closed public entrance. That gave me hope that they intended to re-open this access but now many months have passed and I worry that it is an attempt to permanently close this entrance.

Impossible, The picture Rob posted with the people standing by the La Ropa sign is the wrong angle for being at La Gaviota. I like concrete over DIRT~

The graphic is supposed to be next to La Gaviota (thus the name at the top of the graphic).

Not surprised at all that condo commandos like pavement over nature. Pobrecitos.

I encourage you to look at the pictures Rob posted again. The picture insert that says "estado actual" is clearly a picture of the entrance near La Gaviota.

I agree with your assessment regarding the illustration's placement and accuracy hromero.

If one has the time, access Google Earth, go to that location and find an aerial image dated 11/23/2020.

Then go to Google Street View to that location and while the image is old (7/2009) one can maneuver around and almost duplicate the illustration's position.

Too much time on my hands??

Guilty....... ;-)

What a shame that would be! The seamless integration with nature is what makes Zihuatanejo so magical! We much prefer this little slice as-is!

You hit the nail on the head with that comment. Need to find a Mexican folk singer that can play that song for the mayor and city council, over and over and over again....Play it from the back of Police Cars, play it at the basketball court, play it every where there is a concrete truck covering another valuable piece of nature.

In the words of Tom Lehrer, “The nicest thing about a protest song is that it makes you feel so good.”

I sure wish Tom Lehrer had never left the limelight! At least once or twice a month, my wife and I will say to one another, "It just takes a smidgeon ..."

Tom has been “a particular favorite since childhood.” I enjoy that his music is “uninhibited in manners of taste.” I was introduced to him by my 8th grade teacher “to whom I shall always be grateful” with this song.
