How does Fighto get to Zihua?
by catlover, Friday, July 23, 2021, 09:29 (859 days ago)
Not only do some tourists not come to Zihua because of the dog on beach rules, but the airlines won't even let dogs on the plane.
But with all those disgruntled dog owners no longer coming to Zihua, you still need to book your favorite hotel and condo 6-12 months in advance because they still all seem to fill up for the high season.

Where there's a will there's a way. If I could get an Afghan Hound here in '74, there's no reason Fido and Fifi can't get here in the 21st century if people really want to come.
The tourists our government is currently attracting mostly arrive by bus, allowing the government to report massive numbers and to fudge details such as how much each tourist spends. It's all about body counts to them because it looks good on paper and most people never question their numbers of delve deeper into details.
The hotels haven't been full for years, especially Zihuatanejo's. Not even during peak season. Not sure where you get your data, or if you're even using any. Ixtapa's clientele don't leave their hotels to purchase anything like they used to, as is plainly obvious by the decay and closures in its various centros comerciales. The local government has allowed this scenario to occur because (a) they are so poorly prepared and have such a shallow grasp of our local tourism industry that they can barely even simulate their duties in tourist promotion, and (b) a less prosperous town is more convenient for them to control and take advantage of and its voting residents are easier to manipulate. While everyone watches the mayor promising more tourism because of the Blue Flag (a blatant lie), he's busy behind the scenes furthering his political and economic ambitions. The Ciclovía and the Remodelación were HUGE gifts from the Gober Precioso. The Ciclovía contract was awarded after he won the first election but before he took office, destroying much of the boulevard's gardens in Ixtapa in the process, showing his hand that he could care less about destroying beauty to lay HIS cement (which those of us paying attention already knew from his previous stint in Obras Públicas in another administration).
We are witnessing Acapulquito in progress thanks to greedy slimebag politicians. Let's see if the new Gobernadora can change the course of this runaway trainwreck.
One can't fly with pets on Alaska because the cargo holds on the Airbus aren't pressurized. No idea what type of aircraft are being used by other carriers.

That's the job of the local tourism authorities: to make sure the people who want to come here can get here easily and affordably. They've been shirking their duties for years and it shows, taking care of filling up Ixtapa's big hotels and practically NOTHING ELSE. Unfortunately too many of the businesses who came here from other places to suckle off the Zihuatanejo cash cow simply move on to somewhere else when times get tough instead of calling on the local government to do its job, while locals still haven't found their own legs to seriously call into question anything the local or state government does. They're just happy to get any attention at all from them after so many years of being ignored.
My other major complaint with local and state tourism authorities is their total ignorance of the rest of the USA. Most of the USA's money is in the east, where Cancún, the Bahamas and the Caribbean get their tourists from, but no one here even considers the east. So while the west crashes and burns, we continue missing out on a market ripe for the picking.
Personally I've never flown Alaska, and if I wanted to travel with my pet I wouldn't let their lack of service stop me. There are other airlines.

Hola. As far as know, Air Canada and Aero Mexico fly all dogs except snub nosed dogs, eg Pugs and such, out of Canada. Small dogs are still allowed in the cabins. Don't know about "support animals".

Why the discrimination against snub nosed dogs?

Animals with short or snub noses are more likely to die on an airline due to breathing issues, studies have shown. Dog breeds with snub noses—brachycephalic breeds—are more prone to respiratory problems even under normal conditions, according to the American Veterinary Medical Association. “They don’t breathe as efficiently as dogs with normal-length snouts and can have difficulty cooling off when they’re playing or exercising, or if they’re stressed or overheated,” the AVMA said.
There are other breed restrictions as well, along with size restrictions.

Personally I prefer Airbus - slightly wider cabins means slightly wider seats - but then I'm not a pet owner. If there's a silver lining for pet owners it's that Alaska will be phasing out its Airbuses over the next couple years and going back to Boeing and pressurized holds.

Your blanket statement about Alaska not having planes with pressurized cargo areas flying to Zihua is incorrect. In October 2020 it was a problem. I flew a 5 leg trip , 3 Alaska and 2 aeromexico flights to get to Zihua with my pooch. On March 15, 2021 I Flew 3 Alaska flights with my dog from Zihua to central Alaska.

Somebody told me that Alaska uses Airbus aircraft on the LAX to ZIH leg. I called the company and they confirmed that was the case. It doesn't concern me one way or the other, since I don't travel with pets.

I personally flew a Boeing on Alaska this year, so your statement was not correct, the Airbus use on the LAX Zihua route is not exclusively Airbus.
