Road is closed. I think it might have to do with rock slides but not sure.

It's for a mountain bike sporting event. Today was the "short track" event and Sunday there will be a longer event.
3 of us in the car and we all got it wrong.

Is that the highway going up towards Ciudad Altamirano? The one I've always been curious about, due to warnings that it isn't safe?

No. It’s the road between the checkpoint on the highway leaving Zihuatanejo towards the airport and La Ropa. Its purpose was to justify the development of Playa Manzanillo by some influyentes & corruptos.

Personally I like the road to nowhere. There a couple of nice botique condo projects going in and a young man and his father have built a very nice tennis club. Also, this road has provided an alternate exit from LaRopa in case of an emergency. The only thing that I wish would happen is that large trucks for construction projects would start using it gain access to LaRopa. The small winding road full of pedestrians and bikes being shared with a large truck is very unnerving at times.
On top of all of that, the road provides a great workout with the reward of a nice view from the top. Case in point, the bike event.

Natasha, of PAN-ísimo fame is building her new home and bakery just up from the tennis club on the other side of the road. She was hoping to open in November. We haven't spoken to her lately, and won't go up that road again until tomorrow, so we don't know how her building is coming along.

Condo projects. Buildings that destroy our natural beauty and that bring in very little income for our community compared to hotels, especially when owned by people who don't live here. Just an observation after over 50 years living in tourist resorts where the condo commandos tend to ruin one community after another, one coastline after another. No offense to my condo owning friends.
That road also serves as an alternative way for thieves to enter and leave La Ropa by vehicle. With the one road there was only the one exit that was easier to put up a roadblock should anything happen (not that such a strategy was ever implemented), but two exits are even better for thieves, including the ones trying to privatize Playa Manzanillo. I just don't see that it benefitted anyone other than the builder: the mayor, as well as people looking to build projects on what should've been declared an Área Natural Protegida.

I liked the trails that existed before the road. I used to be able to walk from La Ropa to Playa Manzanillo in about 20 minutes on the trails. And that was back when I still smoked tobacco.

Times change, eh? Only a few decades ago, it wasn't necessary to add "tobacco."

No offense taken. However I should point out that the condo owner pays Property Tax, HOA dues that pay gardners, security, Managers, Accountants, Pool Maintence, painters, plumbers, electricians. Also annual Feduciceries, (bad spelling). Then on top of that, we hire people to keep the inside of our condos updated, and maintanied. Many of us are here 6 months of the year. We support many of the local markets, Many of the local casual dinning places and many of the fine dinning places. Might I say many of us tip very well. Do we appricate all that we receive in return from the full time residents and citizens, OH YES WE DO. Many of us CONDO Owners also rent out the our units. Taxes are collected same as the hotel, Property managers (Local) are paid as are thier staff. Personally I feel the opposite of you Rob. I find that Condos make an area better than Hotels that provide a Party weekend spot. Condos on the other hand encourage longer term visitors which had a tendency to appricate the stay much more than in on Friday out on Sunday morning. I would rather had 10 3 stories 15 unit condo than a 15 story 150 unit hotel....

We should get shirts made! Own a condo, support the community, pay taxes? You could be a Condo Commando! We just need a mascot.
