Guerrero's health officials confirm 14 currently active cases of Covid-19 in Zihuatanejo, 2 in Atoyac, 1 in Coyuca de Benítez, 214 in Acapulco, and 281 in the entire state. The sixth wave seems to be steadily growing.
Millions of minnows have been schooling in Zihuatanejo Bay these past few days. Hopefully that's a good sign. The sea birds are certainly eating well.
The full moon has made for extremely low tides which has made it quite difficult for tourists to embark and disembark from the water taxis at the Muelle Municipal and the pier at Playa Linda. Too bad city authorities ignored suggestions for floating landing platforms.
A big shout out to the hardworking professionals at the Centro Visual Ixtapa for taking care of vision problems for so many people this week. The capsulotomía I received makes me feel like I have super vision now!

Did you have the capsulotomía to correct side effect(s) of cataract surgery?
My cataract surgery was nothing short of miraculous.
The 'haloing' after effect is annoying.
The YAG laser procedure doesn't seem to have been effective.
This was done back in California

Yes, that was what it was for. The difference was immediately noticeable, like the day after cataract surgery when I took the bandage off. It was like having immediate super vision being able to see details that only with a magnifying glass I had been able to see.

I've stared into a few deadly situations. Fires, firearms, hurricanes, tornados, earthquakes, deadly animals, deadly people, deadly illness, desperation, depression, and poverty among them. Staring into a scalpel for cataract surgery and keeping the eye steady was a rough one, though the anesthetics helped. But staring directly into a laser beam and maintaining one's eye steady with no anesthetics was one of the more interesting ones. Though I'd read about the procedure, it isn't until you must stare into both a blinding white light AND a laser that it all comes together into a moment that has your TOTAL attention, because if you mess it up, the consequences can be pretty sh¡tty.

I was extremely myopic prior to cataract surgery: coke bottle lens for distance vision but I could see germs up close. Now, I'm reversed: excellent distance vision without corrective lens, but I can't see a damned thing up close....have to wear readers dangling from a string 24/7....really irritating.
Is it the ophthamologist who detects the need for a follow-up capsulotomy, or is the process initiated by the patient complaining of cloudy vision? I find I often have to blink to clear cloudiness. I was treated for glaucoma prior to cataract surgery, so I have to see my specialist every 6 months for glaucoma follow-up in any event. If I don't raise the issue of cloudiness, would he see it anyway?
And yes, that halo effect after cataract surgery has made night driving a challenge.

Your oftalmólogo (but not your optómetro) would be able to see the film of tissue over the lens in your eye during a routine exam, and they should recommend the capsulotomía procedure. It restored my vision to what it was immediately after the cataract surgery. The lens inserted during cataract surgery should allow you to see quite well both far and relatively near, if not actually reading distance. I apparently have one lens slightly more perfect than the other. So I only really need glasses for reading small print up close. Moreso for one eye than the other.

I had one eye done earlier this year and the other in the previous year. I had a procedure referred to as 'PanOptix', which is supposedly the latest and greatest and I think developed by an Israeli company. The promise is that both near and far as well as middle and reading range are restored and no need for glasses. That promise has been pretty much fulfilled. I still might reach for some old glasses or 'enlargers' when doing some very tight close up work like removing tiny screws from an iPhone. The 'haloing' is annoying and in my opinion 'downplayed' by the medical team. Sure they mention it as a possible after effect, while at the same time mentioning that they have a followup procedure ('YAG' or maybe some other types of lasers) that can deal with that. As mentioned I have the haloing and the psychedelic circles experienced while driving at night or appreciating a full moon are annoyances. But overall I wouldn't trade the procedure.
New lenses, tooth implants, maybe a knee replacement in the future (hopefully NOT!).
I tell you it's a MIRACLE!
By the way the cost of the eye miracle:
Approximately $10K USD per eye, and Medicare covered about 1/2.
And the rest out of pocket.
That was my experience in California.

For what this is worth Ironwood --- I’ve been wearing glasses since shortly after the dinosaurs went extinct and after cataract surgery, I too experienced similar issues when it came to corralling my (now needed) reading glasses.
It didn’t take long for me to realize that having my reading glasses on a rope to be a real pain and interfered with simple daily tasks like driving, flying, reading or watching TV by constantly having to switch to use/not use them.
I spoke with my optometrist and it was her suggestion that I continue to wear glasses with a RX that was progressive (for reading, close up needs) and neutral to take advantage of my new eagle eyed far sighted vision.
It works great and having to remember to carry or squirreling away countless pairs of reading glasses in a variety of places is now a thing of the past.
Perhaps it might be worth some consideration.
Roberto!
