Cruise Ship Chaos

Good photo of the "pier-that-one-day-will-be." Good question might be, given that there are two cruise ships due here in less than one month: where are those vessels going to unload those hundreds upon hundreds of souvenir-hunting folks that downtown merchants hope will arrive? Does the port captain have an answer?

I thought I'd already answered this but maybe not.

The cruise ships due to arrive next month will offload their passengers via tenders at the Puerto Mío wharf. This has been used before though because of the single lane road the buses have a bit of a challenge. And since people are bussed instead of being able to simply walk from the wharf to downtown, the downtown waterfront merchants will lose a lot of sales they would normally get. The disembarking tourists will likely all have pre-purchased tours, probably mostly to Ixtapa.

It'll work, but it'll be a bit chaotic. We've seen this movie before. The biggest challenge will be to our Tránsitos having to manage the traffic on the one-lane road to Puerto Mío. I've seen buses have to go in reverse down much of the length of that road. Scary! I'd rather walk the road (and I used to several times a day when I lived where Puerto Mío is 44 years ago before there was a road). ;-)
