Patrolling Highways

What is current status of traffic in and out of Zihua? Auto? Bus? Air? Up and down 200? Rumor on the street is total lock down/lock out?

The right of free transit is constitutional, and only the Presidente can modify it for reasons of a national emergency. He has not yet done so. Nevertheless, some communities such as Barra de Potosí, La Saladita, Troncones and La Majahua here on the Costa Grande, like other communities in Mexico, have taken it upon themselves to restrict access to residents and suppliers, turning away would-be tourists. I'm sure if some tourist wanted to take it to court they would win, but Mexico has a long tradition of respecting the rights of communities as well as the uses and customs of indigenous communities. We are not a litigious culture as our northern neighbors are, thank goodness, though I understand this is problematic for some folks who have moved here from those northern places.

The Guardia Nacional, Policía Estatal and the military are keeping an eye on the highways. They are politely asking tourists to consider returning home after informing them that our beaches are closed, but they are not forcing them to do so. They have also been patrolling the streets here in our town. Most of us in Guerrero are truly thankful for their sacrifice and service. Something we have wanted for decades. They deserve our gratitude.
