Sorry this is so late.

As of today Zihuatanejo has registered a cumulative total of 1,503 confirmed cases of Covid-19 (4 more than yesterday), 118 that have resulted in fatalities, 17 that are currently active, and 1,270 that have recovered. I'm guessing that the recent increase in cases is from the Día de la Revolución vacation weekend celebrations that apparently too many people recklessly participated in.

However, I do have to laugh at the USA recommending that its citizens not travel to Mexico because of Mexico's "Covid-19 problem". That is a friggin JOKE! I see people in the most rural villages wearing facemasks here, all up and down the coast from Zihuatanejo to Acapulco. It's the tourists who come here and ignore health safety protocols who pose the greatest risk to costeños, and I'm disappointed to say some of those I've seen not wearing facemasks have been foreigners. A facemask may not be a catch-all preventative, but at this point in this pandemia it's a sign of respect for others, and that matters.

México says adiós to Dr. Mireles and actress/singer Lucha Villa (today's music) today as well as to Argentina's Diego Maradona. Dr. Mireles was a modern day Zapata who fought in Michoacán against the narcos until the narco-government locked him up. He deserves our gratitude and our respect for all he did.
