Traveller's bug - Stomach troubles

Hello Friends,
Just spent some beautiful days in Zihuatanejo, staying very safe with COVID protocols, cleanliness, distancing and staying peacefully to ourselves enjoying long walks along the Avenida Bicicleta and through our favorite parts of town, greeting the locals with a sincere "Buenos Dias" or "Buenos Tardes" and getting such warm replies in return. Despite all of our preparations and precautions, we have picked up an intestinal bug which has brought about days of diarreha, stomach cramping, and lack of appetite. We have both tested NEGATIVE for COVID-19 and will test again back in our hometown with a saliva test in a day or two. Meanwhile, a strict quarantine and some household tasks... This bug has happened before in years past, interestingly starting only after moving over to reside on Playa La Ropa...
Fellow Z-travellers have told us this is quite common and that there is a shot that one can receive in the buttock to alleviate the symptoms.
Question: Does anyone know what this "bug" might be (medical terminology appreciated) and what the "mystery shot" is?? Too little too late, we have left Zihuatanejo. Now, unfortunately, we have "symptoms" which will keep us from gaining access to our own healthcare facilities until we get better.

First, I'm not a dr nor do I play one on TV. But I am someone plagued by stomach problems even under the best of circumstances.

I experienced that same thing on my first trip to Zihua, staying at a hotel in la Ropa. Down for a couple days. I think your body just takes a little time to get used to the local mirco flora and fauna. OTOH, you may just have regular old food poisoning and there's not much you can do but wait for it to go away.

So I'm assuming this has not responded to the usual application of Immodium & Dramamine? That's the combo that works for me.

I believe the "mystery shot" may be Compazine, generic is Prochlorperazine. Also available in tablet form. Probably available OTC in MX.

The other thing to consider is stress, especially now when traveling which is already stressful enough adds the very real possibility of catching a deadly disease.

As far as prevention, my very unscientific take is probiotics. A strong colony of gut bacteria is a good defense against any interlopers that might ride in on your street taco.

Hope you are feeling better soon.
